Oh, the coach search...

I don't know about everybody else, but I'm starting to get worried. I'm going to list what I think are the top few coaching candidates, including a couple guys who have dropped out. Can't wait to hear your thoughts, and if you happen to be a D1 coach with a ton of experience, a winning program, and have 400 yard offenses perennially, contact me or my friend Dan Guerrero. Thanks...

Well, here they are. I wish I was on this list, I think for over a mil a year I could figure out how to make UCLA win but that's not really my call so, if you talk to Dan keep me in mind. here they are.

Al Golden. Al Golden? Really? Yea, he turned around an amazingly terrible Temple program and turned it into a simply terrible program. A defensive guy, probably gives DWalker the boot, why do we need him? If we wanted a bad coach, I'm available...

Norm Chow. Well, he recently dropped out of the race, but I just heard why... apparently UCLA didn't give him any sort of indication that they were interested after they interviewed, they just kinda put him in a holding pattern as though he doesn't have an incredibly demanding NFL job. Great. Yea, there might be a reason he's never been given a chance to be a head coach, and yes, I've heard he's not much of a recruiter, but he's an offensive machine... and his offenses would fire kids out to the NFL so that might recruit for itself... but it's not happening, so forget about it.

Rick Neuheisel. As I write this I realize I don't even know how I feel about this. The story is great, ex-bruin quarterback returns to save the day. Except that we tried to let an ex-bruin receiver save the day and it didn't work. Yes, Slick Rick's had some success in the past, he had some really great teams at both Colorado and Washington. His troubles with the NCAA don't even really bother me, I mean, he got rolled for betting in a basketball pool after it was cleared by the athletic director at the school. I bet everyone on the NCAA committee had at least 5 on Kansas that year anyway, so that's bs. What bothers me is the way his teams folded in the third year, and the way he left the programs after he was done. He's not worth it if it's going to mean 2 great years and then a collapse, followed by his swift firing. We don't need that. But hey, the dude's charismatic, and apparently he's a recruiting guru. If he can convince this class to stay together he might be the guy for the job.

Mike Belloti. Well, my day went from being amazing to really bad. 20 minutes after I found out about Belloti's interview, I read that he's not interested. We would have finally had it! An offense and a defense. Unreal. This guy's the real deal kinda coach. If he had that kind of success in Eugene, recruiting and playin his offensive ball, imagine the kind of dudes he'd get into the powder blue. Man that would have been sweet. Well, he ripped my heart out and as soon as I fell in love with him I grew to dislike him. Too bad, he would have been perfect. Those kind of athletes Oregon has had of late would have wanted to come to UCLA, those quarterbacks he's been churning out, those running backs, receivers, oh man. I have to stop.

Terry Bowden, John Harbaugh. It is only fair to lump these two together because they're so similarly wrong for this job. Well, if they want a coach with experience, scratch these fools off the list. They have none. They have both been coaching a while, but Harbaugh has never even been a coordinator, let alone a head coach. They both have no business even being in the discussion, but they are. Luckily West Virginia is desperate enough to be interested in Bowden now that they're coach bounced on them. Then again, it might not be desperation, they might just want to keep their recruiting class together and hire quickly. Sounds like a good idea huh?

Finally, DeWayne Walker. I love the guy. I think he's a really good coordinator, and honestly he might be a really great coach sometime. He really might be. He's got the attitude, the moxy, the charisma, he recruits well, he's got control of his players. Really a good guy to hire for a lot of schools, but not for UCLA. I mean, like I just said he could be a really good coach, but for UCLA to take another chance? I don't think it would be fair to DeWayne honestly. Think about, UCLA goes from hiring an inexperienced african-american coach who was popular in the beginning and fell out of favor after a few years of mediocrity. What risks would Walker face? At the first sign of mediocrity he would be gettin the Dorrell shuffle and we'd start this all over again. Honestly, he could be great, but it really wouldn't be fair to him to have him go through all those comparisons and scrutiny. I hope we can keep him though, great DC if you ask me.

So those are the frontrunners as of now, except for the ones who dropped out (or should). My thoughts, well I think they trickled in there. I mean, I think any coach that comes in can be instantly successful if he can keep this year's recruiting class together. That's a tall order, but it's an amazing class, great kids, great athletes, really forming a bond, but several of them, and I mean several, are taking visits and seem like they could commit elsewhere any second now. I hope who ever we get can convince these guys that we can score points, have fun, win, do all those things fans love to see and players love to do. Belloti would have been perfect, and at this point I'd rather wait it out and see if any other coaches from other schools toss their names in the hat before we hire someone crazy who can't hack it.

I wanna know how you all feel about the coaching situation. It's as sticky as ever and I honestly don't know what's going to happen. Lemme knooooooow. Updates on recruits will come soon.

Welcome

Well here we are... UCLA faithful reading thoughts by UCLA faithful. It's a beautiful situation. Our inspiration came from the countless other UCLA sites, which we frequent and adore. We wanted a website that was more interactive. We'll give you the news, our own thoughts, and everything else, but we want to hear what you guys all think. UCLA's got some of the greatest, most knowledgeable fans we've encountered, so we want to hear from you.

Now that the pleasantries are out of the way... why should you listen to us?
Well first off, we have a blog and you don't. If you do, let's party.
Second, we're more into UCLA than USC's into Pete Carroll and paying players, so we'll give you honest opinions and important information.
Third, no one hates USC more than us. No one.

Look, we'll try to have a good time, have some good info and content, and try not to go too much into Tim Floyd's haircut. Either way, Go Bruins!

Peace and love.
Bruin Brain team.
